Aquatic Physical Therapist Publishes Inspiring Children’s Book About Water Therapy
McLean, VA — Dr. Kristen Kilroy, a McLean-based aquatic physical therapist, is turning her passion for helping children into a story that inspires young readers. Her debut picture book, Henry Goes to Aquatic Physical Therapy, will be released on August 12 and is now available for pre-order.
Based on her real-life work in pediatric aquatic therapy, the book follows Henry, a young boy feeling nervous about starting water therapy. With guidance from his therapist, Dr. Kristen, Henry’s sessions transform into imaginative adventures—scaling jungle treehouses, searching for pirate treasure, and discovering his own courage.
“This book is meant to show kids that aquatic therapy doesn’t have to be scary,” says Dr. Kilroy. “It’s full of movement, imagination, and so much possibility.”
A Resource for Families, Educators, and Therapists
More than a heartwarming story, Henry Goes to Aquatic Physical Therapy helps children understand what to expect during aquatic physical therapy sessions. It’s a valuable resource for:
- Children preparing for their first therapy session
- Families navigating new routines
- Pediatric therapists introducing aquatic therapy to young patients
The book also promotes water safety, inclusion, and representation for children with invisible disabilities—while celebrating resilience and empowerment.
