Learning Something Newis the New Self Care(and it’s not all bubble baths and candles)

By JONI FOERTER Owner Furniture Rescue

I enjoy learning. I’m not in a classroom learning something but I don’t have to be. The opportunity to learn is everywhere. Walking down street, simply watching TV or doing something in our
warehouse, which is where a lot of my learning time takes place.
By learning something new you are not stagnant; you are growing.
It’s as if your soul is like a plant. Watering the plant helps it grow.
Without water, a plant does not grow; it dies. When you nourish
your soul it flows into your essence and your mind. Research
shows that if we do not challenge ourselves, we get bored, which
can lead to heart disease, and we die young. There are many
benefits to the brain when someone has new experiences. It increases dopamine, “the
feel-good hormone.” It also allows your brain to build connections
between neurons, which helps us retain information, which helps
us all around. Research is looking into seeing if learning a new
skill or an idea can prevent Alzheimer’s because of the effects that
learning has on our brains.
