McLean Community Center Turns 50
A Year-Long Celebration of Legacy and Community

The McLean Community Center (MCC), a cherished institution at the heart of Greater McLean, is marking a monumental milestone in 2025—its 50th anniversary! Since opening its doors in October 1975, MCC has been a hub for arts, culture, and community connections, faithfully serving the residents of Dranesville Small District 1A. This golden anniversary year promises a vibrant celebration filled with events and initiatives that honor MCC’s rich history while looking toward an exciting future.
A Year of Celebration

The festivities kick off on Saturday, January 4, with a special opening event at the Alden Theatre. This evening will feature a McLean History Talk by renowned historian Carole Herrick, the premiere of the MCC 50th Anniversary Celebration Video, and a reception in partnership with Friends of the MCC and the McLean Project for the Arts.
Throughout the year, MCC will continue to celebrate with a series of dynamic events, including:
Culminating Community Celebration: On October 18, MCC will host an evening of music, food, and interactive activities, offering something for every generation.
Spring Fest Tree Planting: On April 5, MCC will plant a commemorative tree to honor its 50 years of service.
McLean Day: On May 16-17, the annual “party in the park” will feature special 50th-anniversary touches.
Summer Concert Series: Thursday evenings in June and July, enjoy live music and anniversary-themed giveaways at the newly renovated McLean Central Park.
Mural Dedication at Old Firehouse Block Party: On September 20, a new community mural, created with local input, will be unveiled at the Old Firehouse Center.
Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future
As part of its anniversary, MCC is introducing lasting tributes to its legacy. These include a typographical sculpture at the MCC Plaza entrance inspired by the MCC logo and a digital timeline that invites the community to explore its history interactively. Residents are also encouraged to share their memories and photos on the digital engagement platform My MCC Memories.
A Center of It All
MCC’s facilities include the Alden Theatre, art galleries, studios, and spaces for community meetings and events. The center also operates the award-winning Old Firehouse Center, a dynamic space for teens and families. Funded by residents through a real estate tax surcharge, MCC remains deeply rooted in the community it serves.
As Executive Director Betsy May-Salazar aptly puts it, “2025 is a year of celebrating, connecting, reflecting on memories, and planning for the next MCC generation.”
Mark your calendars and join the celebration as MCC honors 50 years of enriching the McLean community. For updates and event details, visit mcleancenter.org or follow MCC on social media.
