Seeing Homes Through a Different Lens

By Crystal Sheehan, REALTOR® | Keller Williams Realty McLean

I’m excited to join McLean Living Magazine as the new Real Estate Expert Contributor and look forward to connecting with this incredible community.

Before we dive into market updates and real estate advice, I’d love to share a little about my journey—and why, to me, real estate has always been about so much more than buying and selling homes.

A Passion That Started Early

Some people discover real estate later in life.

Mine began as a child growing up in Florida.

My father and grandfather worked in home construction and renovation, and from an early age, I was surrounded by conversations about craftsmanship, quality, and the details that make every home unique.

Weekends often meant driving through neighborhoods with my father, identifying homes that could benefit from improvements and learning to notice the little things most people overlooked—from paint colors and materials to architectural details and quality workmanship.

Looking back, I realize I was developing an eye for homes long before I knew it would become my career.

Lessons That Shaped My Career

When I was 15, my family returned to our Virginia roots and settled on a farm in Orlean, where my parents still raise Angus cattle today.

Life on the farm taught me invaluable lessons about hard work, discipline, responsibility, and perseverance—qualities that continue to guide both my personal life and my career.

But before entering real estate, I took a different path.

After graduating from Virginia Tech with degrees in Business Finance and Applied Economics, I spent several years working with high-net-worth clients at fee-only financial planning firms.

That experience continues to influence how I serve my clients today.

Buying or selling a home isn’t simply a real estate transaction—it’s often one of the biggest financial decisions a family will ever make.

More Than Closing Deals

For more than ten years, I’ve had the privilege of helping buyers and sellers throughout Northern Virginia.

Today, I’m proud to be one of Keller Williams McLean’s top-producing agents and have been recognized by several regional and national publications for my work in luxury real estate.

While I’m grateful for every recognition, what matters most to me has never been awards or sales numbers. It’s the relationships.

The People Behind Every Home

One transaction, in particular, will always stay with me.

I worked with a gentleman in his nineties who had lived in the same family home for more than fifty years.

Selling wasn’t simply a financial decision—it was an emotional life transition.

Rather than rushing the process, we moved at his pace, discussing every option carefully.

When his daughter later thanked me for making her father feel supported throughout the journey, it reminded me why I love what I do.

Real estate is never just about houses.

It’s about people, memories, and new beginnings.

Proud to Call McLean Home

My family and I have proudly called McLean home for the past fourteen years.

Like many local parents, I’ve spent countless hours at schools, playgrounds, sporting events, and community gatherings.

More recently, I had the privilege of serving as President of MOMS of McLean, an experience that strengthened my appreciation for the friendships, generosity, and strong sense of community that make this area so special.

People often move here because of its location near Washington, D.C. They stay because of the people.

McLean is a place where neighbors become friends, families build lasting memories, and community truly matters.

Looking Ahead

As I begin this new chapter with McLean Living Magazine, I’m excited to share market insights, practical real estate advice, and local perspectives that help readers make informed decisions.

Whether you’re buying your first home, preparing to sell, searching for your forever home, or simply curious about the Northern Virginia market, I hope these articles become a trusted resource.

Most of all, I look forward to continuing the conversations that make McLean such an extraordinary place to call home.
