Vernon Davis Scores Big in Comedy with New Mockumentary ‘Match Point’

By CHARLIE GALLEGOS

McLean’s own Vernon Davis, former NFL star and Super Bowl champion, is making waves in the entertainment world once again—this time, with his comedic chops. Featured on February’s cover, Davis is stepping into a new role in Match Point, a fresh and irreverent mockumentary set to premiere on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video on February 11, 2025. Directed by Sports Emmy nominated filmmaker Joslyn Rose Lyons (Stand – Showtime Sports/
Paramount Plus), Match Point takes audiences behind the scenes of a chaotic, unfiltered podcast run by two former professional tennis players—played by Davis and fellow Super Bowl champion Omar Bolden (Nice & Neat). The duo,
navigating the unpredictable world of podcasting, finds themselves entangled in the antics of a highstrung producer (Ashley Haas) and a ratings-obsessed talent booker (Rob Gordon), all while dealing with wildly eccentric guests. The show hilariously explores the absurdity of the entertainment industry and the
art of “failing upwards.” Davis, who has been steadily growing his presence in Hollywood with roles in films like Please Don’t Feed the Children, also serves as an executive producer for Match
Point, joining an accomplished team that includes Lyons, Johanna Saldaña (Blindspotting), and Dominique Mouton (The Lower Bottoms).

“My vision was to create a project that not only entertains but also
pushes the boundaries of storytelling—blending mockumentary
with new media and breaking the fourth wall,” said Lyons. “As
artists, we embrace the freedom of expression, where comedy
uncovers deeper meaning and invites audiences to find light in the
most unexpected places.”

For Davis, this series is another exciting chapter in his post-NFL career, proving his versatility and passion for entertainment. “I’m excited about the unique blend of comedy and mockumentary in this project—it’s a fresh take on podcasting like you’ve never seen before,” he said. “Bringing all of us together in this format creates a one of-a-kind experience, and I can’t wait for viewers to enjoy it.”
The series has already received accolades, winning awards at the London Global Film Festival and the New York International Film Awards, and earning official selections at the Cal Film Festival and IndieX Film Fest. With Match Point, Davis continues to redefine his career, proving that his winning streak extends well beyond the football
field.
