You’re Late For Thanksgiving

By TJ MONAHAN, AIA – Founder and President Designed Happy

It’s Thanksgiving Day, 2024, and you’re hosting.
As you juggle recipes and oven timing, guests arrive. You greet them briefly before retreating to the kitchen. But soon, they follow—offering to help, chatting, lingering in the limited space. You need focus, not company.

This is it, you tell yourself. The last Thanksgiving in this kitchen. You’ve meant to remodel since moving in, but life kept getting in the way. Not this time. January will mark the start of your dream kitchen journey—plenty of time before next Thanksgiving.

Fast forward: The new year begins, work is busy, and family commitments pile up. By February, you’re still researching contractors. March arrives, and you haven’t made a decision. There’s still time—eight months should be enough, right?

Wrong. You’re late for Thanksgiving.

In Designed Happy, The Book, I discuss reverse timelines to plan projects efficiently. Here’s how it applies to your kitchen remodel:

Today is March 1, 2025. If you haven’t signed a proposal, you’re already behind. Adjusting the timeline is possible, but it requires experienced professionals to navigate compromises without added stress.

If you want your dream kitchen before next Thanksgiving, let’s chat. We’ll help you create the entertaining space you’ve always imagined.
